laughter not tears
With this project, families really do feel part of the 'caring team' and even though I am sure that most homes may well work extremely hard to inform and welcome families, I do feel that because of workloads and financial restraints, important contacts do regularly fall by the wayside.
So often in the news, we only hear about poor practice in care homes and it is easy to complain, and not see or understand exactly where the real issues are.
This project offers a positive approach, and demonstrates that by involving families with care homes and their carers, can produce some positive results for everyone involved with care.
‘A quote from a family member’
“Visits to my Mum sometimes used to be a challenge – not knowing whether Mum would be in a good mood or grumpy and frustrated, and with very limited conversation, I confess, it was sometimes a chore. With The Friends Of Care Homes on the agenda it is now a joy to visit and something I very much look forward to. It gives me & Mum something enjoyable to do together and distracts mum from any grumbles/frustrations she may have been having.”
